“Where your fear is, there is your task.”

- C.G. Jung

Specializing in the treatment of anxiety, I help men get clarity about what they want, confidence in who they are, and the courage to do what it takes to make their dreams a reality.

Stop pretending everything is okay.

Henry David Thoreau said, “The mass of men lead lives of quiet desperation.” Many smart, capable, caring men feel trapped. Held captive by fear and anxiety, they often spend all their energy trying to make others happy while feeling little to no happiness themselves. Becoming shadows of who they once were, these “nice” men suffer in silence while their dreams slowly slip away from them.

Maybe you keep things to yourself because you “don’t want to be a burden.” Maybe you can’t find the words. Maybe you even tried talking about it before and it didn’t help or it made things worse.

What if your life could be different? What if there’s a better way?

It’s time to try something new.

What if inside your curse there was a gift? What if inside the anxiety that imprisons you, there is energy to break free?

Have you ever noticed that the color yellow symbolizes both cowardice and happiness? Sickness and sunlight? Old yellowed pages and new golden hope?

Mythologist Joseph Campbell said, “Where you stumble, there lies your treasure. The very cave you are afraid to enter turns out to be the source of what you are looking for.”

If you feel stuck in your anxiety and trapped in your own head… give me a call. I’ve been there. Let’s talk about it.

As they say, “If you can’t get out of it, get into it.”

Joel D. Looney, MA LPC

My name is Joel Looney and I’m a Licensed Professional Counselor. I generally consider myself to be my own first…and worst…client. (My wife could tell you how stubborn I am.)

I was a shy kid, then an awkward teenager, and eventually an anxious adult—scared of intimacy, terrified of commitment, petrified of talking on the phone or meeting new people, and afraid to really be myself or express my opinions for fear of what others would think. For most of my life, I’ve been my own worst enemy. While I still struggle daily with anxiety, I no longer allow it to keep me from pursuing the life I want.

There have been many steps on my journey, including spiritual exploration, public speaking, solo international travel, journaling, a master’s degree in clinical psychology, breathing exercises, countless books and audio programs, skydiving, 8 years of counseling murderers and other bad dudes in prison, and eventually leaving my stable job working for the State of Texas to bet on myself and start my own business.

I’ve taken control of my life and am living more authentically and in alignment with my true purpose, part of which is helping men like you find clarity in what they want confidence in who they are, and courage to do what it takes to make their dreams a reality.

Let’s talk and see if I’m a good fit for you as a counselor.
